About the Show
Presenting, Quintessence, a modern reinvention of the rich spirit and traditions of Russian Performing arts. The show is a spectacular visual and musical feast for the senses that combines Russian dancing, music, and clownery and infuses it with the spirit of innovation to create an utterly unique theatrical experience. Quintessence is produced in close collaboration with Pavel Brun, the former art director of several Cirque du Soleil shows as well as Celine Dion's "New Day" in Las Vegas. This unforgettable production fuses the combined efforts of several renowned performing troupes: world famous clown-mime theater Licedei, infamous "folk-n-roll" band Red Elvises, acclaimed ambient folk Russian singing group Ivan Kupala and pioneering folk-modern dance troupe Firebird Dance Theatre.
The Story
Quintessence is the first show of its kind to celebrate and modernize the many facets of Russian performing arts. As its theme, the show uses the ancient philosophy of quintessence, the fifth element of nature — imagined to be the power of life — as well as the other four elements, earth, air, fire, and water. With this as its inspiration, Quintessence takes the audience on a unique journey, paying homage to the beauty and power of the five elements.
When & Where
Quintessence premiered in June 2007 with two performances in the San Francisco Bay Area (Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley and San Mateo College Theater in San Mateo). The premiere featured one of Quintessence' regular musical participants - ambient Russian folk group Ivan Kupala.

Quintessence makes a spectacular this Holiday season with two shows on December 23, 2007 in San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts. These shows will feature another musical participant - the infamous siberian surf rock band from Los Angeles - Red Elvises.
